Radical Abolitionists and Utopians: 1842-1846

Investigate How They Did It

Hands on activities on this site invite teachers and students to explore the world of Sojourner Truth, David Ruggles, the Stetson family, and fellow abolitionists through more than 70 letters, maps, news articles, artifacts, and other period items from the collection of the Historic Northampton Museum.

The Emerging America program of the Hampshire Educational Collaborative offers many web-based resources to help teachers enliven history education and teach students to think critically as they connect local stories to key national themes and events in American History.
