Learn about the central role of the Springfield Armory and other Connecticut River Valley metals manufacturers in the rise of American industry from 1795 to the Civil War.  Explore the museum’s collection of industrial products and technology.  Tour the armory and take a virtual tour of the Forge of Innovation website. 

Shays Rebellion and the Constitution

Learn about the role of the rebellion in shaping the U.S. Constitution.  Tour the site of the rebels’ climactic confrontation with the Massachusetts Militia and explore new evidence on the conduct of the battle.

Historical Skills Workshop: Accessing and Using County Records

Learn to find and use wills, probate records, and deeds to discover and interpret local history. 

Seminar on Primary Sourcebooks
Held: Sat. April 28, 8:00-3:30
          Hampshire Educational Collaborative, Northampton, MA
With: Andrew Hoffman, Projects Director, Teaching American History Program, Bristol Community College
Learn to work with primary sources related to key documents in American history. Participants will receive a set of five Sourcebooks: U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, Gettysburg Address, and "I Have a Dream" speech, arranged thematically and edited for use in the classroom.
